Week of May 21 - 25, 2012
Literature: SLE B1, B2, B3, B5, D3 Students will begin
the story on “Abuela’s Bed.” We will be
focusing on characterization and sequencing of events.
Language Arts/Phonics: SLE B1, B2, B3, B4, B5, B6, B7, Students will be expected to memorize the spelling of the following words: went, this, all, good, if, came. They will be having a spelling test on Thursday. The mystery word will come from the word family “ay” and “ot.” Students will also be working on distinguishing the long and short vowel sounds in words and comparing how the words look and sound.
Writing/Grammar: SLE B1, B2 C3 Students will work on special names (proper nouns.) They will also begin work on action words (verbs.)
Math: SLE B1, B3, Students will be working on subtraction. They will look at the relationship of subtraction and addition. They will practice the technique of planting a number in their head or using a number line and then counting down or backwards.
Religion: SLE A1, A2, A3, B1, B2, C6, D4 Students will spend approx. 5 minutes in a guided meditation. The students will listen to stories of the Blessed Virgin Mary and pray the rosary.
Social Studies: B5, B6 Students will be talking about different community workers and whether they provide goods or services. Students will present their selection of a community worker.
Science: SLE B1, B3, B5, B6 Students will continue to learn about the moon and planets.
Other Notes
Ø We would gladly appreciate help from anyone who can assist us with the cleaning of our toys and placing them in our storage.
Ø Friday May 25 dismissal is at noon. We will have a pizza lunch in school thanks to Tyler Clark’s grandfather.
Ø I will be sending home a packet with ideas on what can be done during the summer, some enrichment work that can be completed at home, and a suggested book list.
Ø If your child borrowed a red shirt or one of the white shirts from the classroom, please return it.
Ø If your child is not returning to St. Anthony School or if your child has outgrown his/her uniform, please consider donating it to the class or school. We can especially use the red shirts as well as the P.E. uniforms.
Ø Please continue to send your child to school with a folder, backpack and a water bottle even to the last day.
Ø Siena’s mom, Sasha Kent, is working on the year end slide show. If you have any photos you think would be good to include, please email them to her.
